Dalbeattie & Galloway

The beautiful Galloway Countryside with it's hills, glens forests and lochs provide ample opportunity for walking, cycling, sailing, windsurfing, riding, bird watching and fishing.

The lovely Solway Coast just a few minutes drive offers sandy bathing, beaches, rocky coves and a wealth of bird life. The region boasts numerous golf courses including the splendid Southerness Course. And an abundance of museums, art galleries, historic houses, castles and several beautiful gardens are nearby.

Maidenholm Forge Mill owes it's existance to the agricultural and granite quarrying industries for which Dalbeattie is famous. In former years the granite was much in demand to build projects such as Liverpool Docks and London Embankments, and tools for this activity were produced at the Forge which was once powered by three waterwheels. In 1946 a Gilkes Turbine was installed which still produces green energy today.

Situated in a peaceful wooded valley alongside the river, yet only a few minutes walk from Dalbeattie Town Centre. Maidenholm Forge Mill has been tastefully restored in recent years to provide high-quality self catering accomodation.
